The Benjamin Foundation - event management

"The success of the BOOM! Event was largely down to the expertise of the team from Plain Speaking PR. Their attention to detail demonstrated a commitment to the event over and above the call of duty. I felt extremely well supported by the PSPR team both in the planning and delivery phases of the project. They brought some excellent ideas to the table but were equally interested in including the creative thinking of staff from The Benjamin Foundation's BOOM! team. PSPR's communications were timely, clear and purposeful. They were able to attract a wide range of activity providers to the event to ensure that the children and young people had a fantastic day. I would wholeheartedly recommend PSPR to other organisations looking for event support."

client

The Benjamin Foundation (TBF) is a Norfolk charity that helps people of all ages deal with many of the challenges that life throws at them; whether 'everyday' issues such as childcare or heartbreaking problems like abuse and homelessness.

challenge

BOOM! is a Norfolk-wide service delivered by TBF which aims to make sure that every young person up to 19 has access to activities which are motivating, exciting, challenging and fun. The project specifically targets ‘hard to reach’ young people, for example, children whose parents are on benefits, children with disabilities or learning difficulties, young carers, young parents and those who are unable to cope with mainstream education. Plain Speaking PR was asked to plan and manage an event to celebrate a year of BOOM! successes; an opportunity for young people from across the county to get together and have fun.

approach

We created the BOOM! event to be a chance for children and young people to try a wide range of new experiences in a safe and fun atmosphere; activities that would be exciting, stimulating and motivating. With only a tiny budget there was no allowance to pay for external activities so we undertook in-depth research to find out what activity providers in the area may be prepared to help out. We ended up a fantastic schedule of fun things for children of all ages to get involved with: sfrom junk funk music workshops to paint-balling with the British army; from street dance lessons to beat-boxing; from football with the Community Sports Foundation to an interactive green-screen experience. Children from around the county signed up for the event through their BOOM! development worker and transport was provided so it was accessible for all.

results

Almost 200 children attended the BOOM! Experience, as well as friends and families. The feedback we had from both activity providers and young people was overwhelming: "Today was the best day of my life". What more can we say?
